Rho and Phi Chapters Honored for Outstanding Scholarship
At its 2009 Laurel Wreath Luncheon, the North-American Interfraternity Conference recognized undergraduate chapters which ranked first on their campus academically and whose GPA is at least 50 basis points above the all-men’s GPA. Sigma Alpha Mu’s Rho chapter at the University of Illinois and Phi chapter at Washington University were among the thirty-five chapters recognized for exemplary academic achievement.
“Sigma Alpha Mu is proud of the academic success of Rho and Phi chapters; the Fraternity places a top priority on academic achievement,” said Supreme Prior Phillip I. Glauben.
On September 26th, the Phi Chapter will be volunteering at Operation Food Bank in St. Louis
Established in 1981 to address the growing problem of hunger, Operation Food Search has become the largest distributor of free food in the bi-state area helping to feed the region’s poor.
Operation Food Search distributes more than 1.5 million pounds of food and household items to 250 community partner agencies that in turn feed 100,000 poor people every single month. Nearly half the recipients are children. The OFS service area includes 30 Illinois and Missouri counties surrounding the City of St. Louis.
Their mission is to provide individuals in need with food and other basic necessities to help them alleviate the burden of hunger and its consequences.
I wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I am very excited to have joined the Wash U community about a week ago. I think most of you know that I am coming to St. Louis, via Washington, DC where I served as the Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life at the University of Maryland-College Park. I was at Maryland five years and spent the eight years prior to that at Cornell University in upstate NY.
I think you also know that I am in a newly created position within Campus Life and will be working not only with the Greek community, but the other programs affiliated with Campus Life.
